The 79th annual Rockefeller Center Tree-Lighting Ceremony was held yesterday, officially welcoming the holiday season to New York City. This year’s tree is a 74 foot tall Norway Spruce from the town of Mifflinville, PA. The tree is decorated with 30,000 environmentally friendly LED lights strung on 5 miles of wire and crowned by a Swarovsky Crystal Star. The ceremony featured performances by Neil Diamond, Cee Lo Green, and Carol King. There were also pre-taped performances by Tony Bennett and Justin Bieber. Tens of thousands of people showed up to witness the tree-lighting ceremony, which happened on a day when President Obama was in town to raise money for his re-election bid. The combination of the tree lighting ceremony and the President’s visit, caused a traffic nightmare in Manhattan. Regardless, nothing could take away from the beauty and the awesomeness of the ceremony. Let the holiday season commence!
